The Benefits of Ozone Treatment for Retailers and Manufacturers
In our last article, we talked about how Ozone works. Now it’s time to discuss why: the value of this service, how it supports businesses and what makes it a better option than dry cleaning or simply discarding products that smell or have mould.
Industrial ozone cleaning has many benefits for retailers, which can rectify problems that arise during shipping. For example, mould can become a problem during shipping, when garments spend weeks in a container in damp conditions. Ozonation is also used to eliminate odours such as smoke, damp or other odours.
About Ozone
Ozone Eliminates Odours
After transport on ships and lorries for weeks at a time, the odour of damp, rust or engine fumes can cling to products. If a delivery arrives smelling of mildew, the products are not in a saleable condition and need treatment.
Ozone cleaning uses high concentrations of ozone to oxidise the compounds and organisms present, destroying the root cause of unpleasant smells.
Ozone Breaks Down Bacteria, Mould and Viruses
Ozone also damages the cellular structure of microorganisms that can spread through product deliveries. This means we can effectively decontaminate entire product lines and stop infections from spreading between manufacturing plants and retail stores.

Cost-effective Cleaning for 100s of Products
When a whole product line is affected by mould or unpleasant odours, the scale of the issue presents a problem. Many services offering ozone clothes cleaning are designed for one or two personal items, as is dry cleaning.
Our ozonation treatments are designed to clean and remove mould at scale, a cost-effective solution when a whole product line is affected.
While conventional dry cleaning is expensive to run at scale, an industrial ozonation service can clean hundreds of items at once. We generate ozone around the products in a large, sealed space. When the ozone reaches a high concentration, the space remains sealed for up to an hour, during which the ozone penetrates all folds and crevices, oxidising any contaminants and destroying odorous compounds.
Because of the scale of our facility, we can disinfect hundreds of products in just one hour, at minimal cost to the customer.

Reduces Waste
Ozone cleaning services restore products to their original state. This makes cleaning a much better option for retailers than discarding the batch and starting again. The cost of new materials, as well as the environmental cost, is unnecessary when an affordable cleaning solution is available.
Ozone also preserves the quality of most textiles and homeware materials, destroying mould and odours without using harsh chemicals.
Retailers can clean product lines at scale with confidence that the process will not cause further damage.
A Sustainable Process
As a carbon-neutral business, EXCELPRESS are committed to providing sustainable solutions for our customers.
As well as reducing material waste, ozone causes almost no chemical emissions. We generate ozone by creating electrical discharges (or sparks) in ordinary air. Ozone (O3) also dissipates naturally by degrading into oxygen (O2). The only emissions from this process are those released during potential non-renewable energy production.
By choosing ozone cleaning over other dry cleaning methods, our clients reduce their use of artificial aerosols and chemicals. Restoring products rather than reordering will cut the emissions produced during manufacturing. For bulk dry cleaning, ozonation is a sustainable choice.
Multiple applications
Our service is used for a wide variety of products. While our main application is ozone clothes cleaning, we also provide ozone for furniture cleaning, homeware cleaning and more. Any retail product made from ozone-resistant materials is suitable for this process.
Note: Ozone Cleaning is unsuitable for natural rubber, nylon, cast iron, carbon steel, PU foam, PVC or Polystyrene.
End-to-End Cleaning and Pre-Retail Services
After the products have been successfully treated to kill mould and spores, they are thoroughly cleaned by hand in a safe, clean processing area to remove any dead mould. They then undergo any further pre-retailing services, such as hanging, labelling, or re-packaging, before being delivered ready for sale.
Is cleaning with ozone safe?
Our operators do not stay in the room during ozone generation, as the high concentration of ozone gas would not be safe to inhale. However, once the gas has dissipated, the risk has passed, leaving the products odour-free and decontaminated.
Products cleaned with ozone are completely safe to use as intended. There is no residual chemical on the products, as the ozone gas completely degrades in the atmosphere.
